Man writing letter

(Editor’s note: We were reminded of the apostle Paul when our UK office received the following letter from a believer in prison.)

To Sir or Madam,

Hi how are you doing.

Can you please send me a leaflet and order forms and price list and some other information on Worldview Rethink the course so when I get out I can teach it to other people. I would be grateful if you could. I want to be one of your teachers who is teaching the word.

From your brother-in-Christ,
Raymond Carlton*

Rodrick-Malawi(Editor’s note: Last month we posted A very good Christmas gift for Malawians which told about the recent completion and launch of the Chichewa (national language of Malawi) edition of What are Christmas and Easter All About? This is a first-hand report from Rodrick, the translator and Bible teacher who is using this resource to equip Pastors and young people alike to clearly understand the gospel and share it with their own people.)

A brief report from Malawi on the Christmas & Easter Booklet launch

Some years ago, I read a very interesting statement. It said something like this:

“Zeal without knowledge is dangerous, and knowledge without zeal is disastrous.”

What a true statement!

Who shares Bible verses at a soccer match?!

Soccer match
(Editor’s note: Over Christmas, we received a very encouraging testimony that reminded us of three things: 1) the power of God to transform lives, 2) the effectiveness of the prayers of friends and family, and 3) the fruit resulting from a lifelong lifestyle of sharing the gospel.)

During a Christmas Eve service last year, Stephen* shared how he had been turned off by Christianity when he was 17. While watching a soccer match at a stadium, someone invited him to read aloud some Bible verses. That immediately put him off anything to do with Christianity.

Over the years, whatever Stephen learned about the Bible was gleaned from TV documentaries. It didn’t make sense to him. Then, Mabel*, a friend of his wife, invited both of them to attend a “By This Name” course. Stephen wasn’t interested but his wife insisted on him accompanying her. Unknown to him at the time, Mabel and his wife had been praying very hard for Stephen to attend the course.

Nativity line drawing from "What are Christmas & Easter" book

Beginning today, 160 believers from villages around the African country of Malawi will be taught how to share the Good News using the recently completed translation of the book What are Christmas and Easter all About?

The translator who did the work to translate this resource from English into Chichewa, the national language of Malawi, sent this note just yesterday.

Franklin Graham: Abundant Life Festival

Franklin Graham recently spoke for the first time in Chiang Mai, Thailand. His three-day Abundant Life Festival, held Nov. 22-24, drew crowds totalling 70,000.

Many believers came together to help organize this massive event. A group of them set up a booth to provide resources for those who wanted to understand the Bible and its message better. They were handing out little booklets that contained testimonies and the first two chapters of By This Name. And, of course, there were full copies of By This Name in Thai for anyone who wanted a book.

Refugees on Christmas Island

Australia regularly receives boatloads of refugees seeking asylum. Many of these people from surrounding nations are genuine asylum seekers, while others are not. It’s a challenge for the government to discern the difference as it processes these people arriving on its shores.

The refugees are temporarily housed on Christmas Island while their cases are being investigated. There are ministries on the island that provide aid to these men and women from distant places. James and Shelly Campbell* are one such ministry couple. They interact with the refugees, providing help and handing out Bibles and Christian literature to those who ask for them. At their request, our Australia office shipped them a box of What are Christmas and Easter all About? along with other GoodSeed books. The parcel was apparently lost in the mail but, thank God, it showed up two months later.

We recently received a long email from Brazil. A ministry there wanted to encourage us by letting us know they had received quite a number of testimonies regarding our tools. Here are a series of translated notes from them.

My mother now believes!
A missionary wrote to say that for years she had been trying to share the gospel with her own mother. When she got a copy of Portuguese edition of The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus, she used it to teach her mother and by God’s grace, her mother understood and now believes.

Thai Detention Center

A short-term missions team recently travelled to the Buddhist nation of Thailand. As part of the trip, the team visited two detention centers for youths. Altogether, they interacted with about 300 teenagers—most of whom were boys, plus a handful of girls.

The team sang songs, played games and performed a skit about Jesus to an audience who had almost no knowledge of the BIble. The team explained briefly who Jesus was, how he was crucified, and how he gained victory over sin and death. Despite the stares of the other youths, two teens responded by saying they wanted to put their trust in Jesus as their Saviour.

All that the Prophets have Spoken in Turkish
An important component of GoodSeed’s ministry is training. Our staff make trips to places around the globe to conduct our TERM Seminars. A year ago, we held a seminar in Turkey, where among the participants were a pastor and his wife.

The pastor’s wife was very studious. She wrote copious notes in the margins of her copy of the Turkish edition of All that the Prophets have Spoken. In fact, she probably took more notes than anyone else during the course!

"By This Name" booklet

As an equipping ministry, our tools are often used by organizations around the world to give people an opportunity to understand the gospel message. Just last week, Nick Vujicic, from the organization Life Without Limbs, was in Thailand. Nick spoke at two events, one in Chiangmai and one in Bangkok. The ministry sponsoring Life Without Limbs decided to hand out our materials to the event attendees.

The attendees were given a booklet that contained the first two chapters of the Thai edition of By This Name. The booklet also included many testimonies of prominent Thai people who had read the book and were impacted by it. At the back of the booklet was information on how to get a copy of the book.
