Tools to overcome your fear of sharing the gospel

Worldview Rethink Workshop in Edmonton, Alberta

On Saturday, we held a Worldview Rethink Workshop at Bethel Gospel Church. It was a wonderful time with close to 90 participants from in and around Edmonton. We had five different staff share on how a regular believer can cultivate a lifelong lifestyle of sharing the gospel.

Be Ready!

The staff talked about how Jesus has given every believer the mandate to share the gospel (Matt 28:18-20) and that we’ve been given the job title of ambassadors (2 Cor 5:20). And as appointed representatives of a message, we are told to be ready at all times to share it.

…And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. But do this in a gentle and respectful way. (1 Pet 3:15,16. NLT)

One of the biggest obstacles we all face in sharing the gospel is the fear factor. Even if an opportunity to share comes up, we often:

  • don’t know what to do or say! Or…
  • don’t know how to explain the gospel in a clear way.

It was with this very real and sometimes paralyzing fear factor in mind that we designed gospel tools that provide practical help to any believer. They could simply give away a specially designed tool or guide a friend through the gospel.

Give Away

The team demonstrated how easy it was to be prepared by putting together a “Be Ready Box” filled with gospel resources and tools that can be given away to a friend at a moment’s notice.

Guide a Course

The participants also saw how doable it was for any believer to lead a study even if they had never led before, are not good orators, or do not have very much Bible knowledge.

A Personal Ministry

It was really encouraging to see many participants starting to think of both giving and guiding as a personal ministry. The participants equipped themselves with curriculum boxes and visual aid sets to teach as well as multiple copies of books, audiobooks and videos to fill their own giveaway “Be Ready Box.”

These regular, everyday believers understood that they too, were ambassadors for Christ, and they had to be ready to give someone the message of the gospel or even spend several hours guiding a person through the Bible’s main message.

May the Lord bring to these believers friends, acquaintances, co-workers and people in their community who are interested to learn the precious message of the gospel!
