(Editor’s note: It’s Christmas! Here’s how one grandma is planning to make the most of her trip to New York City to reconnect with her family.)<\/p>\n

Beatrice* was excited when she called the other day to tell about her upcoming trip to visit her son and grandchildren in New York for Christmas. Her son had been raised in Canada and he had gone on to become a successful business consultant to global Fortune 500 companies. He had packed up his wife and young family and swapped their rural life for a start in New York City.<\/p>\n

Beatrice was troubled that when they left they also left behind their Christian heritage and their connection with the local church. \u201cThey seem remote and distant when topics like God and the Bible are brought up.\u201d she went on to say, \u201cWhen I go visit for Christmas I’m wondering, would it be appropriate to give a copy of the book,\u00a0By This Name<\/em>, to my son as a gift? I have read it myself and I think that it might be helpful. What do you think?\u201d<\/p>\n

Our answer:<\/strong> Sometimes when we reach out to family, we can’t be certain how they will react. But we shouldn’t conclude that because a past response was sullen or even negative, that it will be the same if approached again in a prayerful way. 2 Timothy 4:2 tells us to \u201cbe ready in season and out of season.\u201d Life and circumstances are constantly changing in everyone’s life. How a person perceives his or her need for God’s grace today may be totally different tomorrow. Yes, Beatrice, we would encourage you to give\u00a0By This Name<\/em>\u00a0for Christmas. The gospel is the most timely message. Hosea 10:12 says, \u201cfor it is time to seek the Lord until he comes\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

And of course, \u201cBeatrice, we wish you a wonderful Christmas with your family!\u201d<\/p>\n
