You've heard them. I have too. I heard one a couple of weeks ago. He was a natural—a homiletics genius. I sat like the proverbial sponge as words dripped flawlessly from his lips. Seldom glancing at his notes, his message was clear, succinct, and pertinent. He held an iron grip on my attention. I listened, enraptured, silently begging for more.
Oh, that there were more gifted orators!
Unfortunately, when it comes to communicating the Bible's primary message—the gospel—many believers secretly compartmentalize this task as belonging to someone else. A photo of that "someone" would probably bear close resemblance to the man I just mentioned—Mr. Golden Tongue himself. And such relegation is not without warrant. For most of us, speech class topped the list of our worst school nightmares. So, when the opportunity to talk with others about God and His Word comes along, we think to ourselves, "If only so and so were here, he could do this." Meanwhile, the opportunity slips away.
How then, can someone who is not a gifted teacher, clearly, accurately, and in an interesting manner, communicate the gospel message without stumbling around? Can it be done?
The short answer to this question is YES! Even a poor communicator can be equipped to do a good job of presenting the Bible's message. The practical solutions shared in this issue of GLEANINGS might surprise you. In fact, if you are able to read this article reasonably well—out loud, you are well on your way to reaching those in your sphere of influence. Curious? Read on.
