When our two oldest children were young, we were working as Bible teachers in South America. Before teaching in another language, my husband practiced on our children. Beginning with creation and ending with Christ, Bret taught them about God's plan down through the ages. At a young age, my children clearly understood what the Bible was all about. It seemed such a good way to explain the Bible that I knew others would want to do the same thing. But there was a problem. The curriculum that we were using was specifically designed for teaching tribal people—in a general way targeting the adult mind. Though the content was great, its presentation was not very user friendly for mothers with young children in a North American setting!
When I learned a few months ago that GoodSeed was working on a children's AudioBook, called The Lamb, I was thrilled! Finally, here was a tool that I could recommend to busy mothers. I had the privilege of obtaining a 'rough cut' for my youngest children. The children listened with interest as John and Heather enthusiastically narrated the story. Since each chapter only takes 4 to 6 minutes, they listened just before bedtime. During this special time, each child could pick a favorite toy and play quietly. This worked wonderfully.
As the children played, they were also learning about a very powerful God who knows everything, even the thoughts that we think; about the wonderful world God prepared for people; about Lucifer and Adam and Eve; about lamb sacrifices and the perfect Lamb that was sacrificed for our sins; and about heaven where "nothing is broken or ever wears out." Sometimes I would hear my little four-year-old girl mimicking the words. A couple of weeks ago she said to me, "Our spanking, even everyone's spanking in the world is Him dying on the cross." This was her own interpretation of the message. Of course, she was referring to Jesus taking our punishment on Himself.
